This is the new obstacle in the permits for Hard Rock Tarragona, and it involves Ercros

A report from the Ministry of Business and Labor of The Generalitat conditions the modification of the urban master plan (PDU) that must allow the construction of the Hard Rock project in Vila-seca and Salou (Tarragona) to Ercros implementing changes in its plant in the town.

This is clear from the document, consulted by Europa Presswhich made the Aturem Hard Rock platform public this Wednesday, explained in a statement.

Sources from the Generalitat have verified the validity of the report and have highlighted that it is technical and does not enter into political conditions.

The report highlights that there are two plots of the PDU where “very vulnerable” elements – hotel, commercial or leisure uses – are planned to be located within the security limit due to proximity to the petrochemical industry.

Among the improvements that the company must make is the consolidation of the chlorine soda production capacity with the construction of new facilities for the production of trichlorisocyanuric acid and calcium hypochlorite, and it must update and execute changes associated with three files.

It must also reduce the potential external impact on industrial safety activities with the confinement of the chlorine storage tanks and the chlorine tanker charging station, a new chlorine absorption safety tower and additional chlorine abatement curtains. , among others.

Ercros declared this Wednesday to Europa Press that these actions are “some of the several projects” planned and that they are pending approval by public administrations.

“It is Ercros’ will to undertake the aforementioned projects within the period that is technically possible,” the company added.

Five years late

Environmental and urban planning procedures have been postponing the Hard Rock project in Tarragona for more than five yearswhich was awarded by the Generalitat in May 2018.

In fact, its unblocking was part of the agreement between ERC and PSC to approve the 2023 Generalitat Budgets, but the deadlines have been missed again.

The commitment signed this February 1 between the president of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès, and the leader of the PSC, Salvador Illa, stated that in 2023 the processes related to the start of the Salou and Vila Recreational and Tourist Consortium project must be completed. -seca -space where the complex is planned to be located-, prior final approval of the Urban Development Plan, during the first half of 2023. This step has not been taken yet, and there is no scheduled date.

The availability of the land – owned by La Caixa and in whose purchase and sale the Generalitat will act as an intermediary, with a valuation of 120 million – must also be maintained as a prior step to the evolution of the project.

The plans of the American multinational contemplate the construction of a great hotel with casinoa space to host events up to 15,000 spectators, and alliances with Value Retail and PortAventura to add a commercial area and a hotel for family audiences. The total projected investment is 2,000 million euroswith a first phase of 700 million and a local economic impact of about 1,300 million.

In fact, the Hard Rock project arose from the failed initiative of businessman Enrique Bañuelos to build the Bcn World tourism and gaming complex on the same land, with up to six casinos, and which was presented at the Palau de la Generalitat in 2012, but over time it was reduced.
